Recently, the student work Wuyi Celadon Cup, mentored by Wang Lisu from the School of Fine Arts and Design, won the silver award at the national finals of the 3rd “China Strait” Wuyi Bamboo Industry International Industrial Design Competition, held under the Eastern Creative Star Design Competition. The university was also recognized as an Outstanding Organizing Unit of the competition.
Wuyi Celadon Cup draws inspiration from the lush bamboo of Wuyi and the intangible cultural heritage of bamboo weaving. It integrates traditional warp-and-weft weaving techniques with modern lighting design. The lamp body is round and elegant, with bamboo strips arranged in rhythmic density. Light filters through the bamboo filaments, creating a warm and hazy glow that evokes the poetic landscape of Wuyi. The design balances traditional texture with contemporary aesthetics, bringing the intangible heritage craft of bamboo weaving into everyday life and conveying a natural, unadorned Eastern philosophy of living.
The Eastern Creative Star Design Competition is a highly influential creative design event in China. As its thematic track, the “China Strait” Wuyi Bamboo Industry International Industrial Design Competition, themed “Bamboo Unites the World Green Living,” adopts a three-tier system of university, provincial, and national competitions. With 247 universities and 39 enterprises or institutions participating nationwide, it stands as an authoritative and professional high-level competition in the field of bamboo industry design.
